For our Berlin office, we are seeking a Senior Architect with experience in project and team management to join our team as soon as possible, working 32–40 hours per week.
De Zwarte Hond Berlin is looking for an experienced architect to help build up the architecture practice at our Berlin office. Our Berlin team currently consists of 8 colleagues in urban planning and landscape architecture. With you, the architectural focus at this location is being newly established. We aim to combine the open, pragmatic, and quality-oriented approach of Dutch architecture with the requirements of German planning and construction processes. Our projects range from residential and educational buildings to public and cultural facilities, universities, and mixed-use neighborhoods.
For us, good architecture begins with urban planning and does not end with design, but with a carefully executed building. We are looking for an open-minded, creative, and engaging individual who wants to tackle this challenge with us. De Zwarte Hond takes an implementation-oriented approach: from the initial idea to the handover of the keys. Our buildings derive their identity from their context, sustainable and healthy materials, and precise details that create character and individuality.
Who are we looking for?
A completed university degree in architecture at master’s or diploma level, as well as registration with a Chamber of Architects (Architektenkammer)
At least 7–10 years of professional experience, preferably including leadership experience within larger firms
Strong design skills and in-depth knowledge of structural and construction engineering
Experience in concept development, implementation planning, detailed design, and material selection
Experience in project management and technical leadership of interdisciplinary teams
Knowledge of German planning, permitting, and construction processes, including large-scale and complex projects
A reflective, critical mindset and clear professional perspective
Initiative, team spirit, and strong communication skills
Affinity with urban planning, structural engineering, circular construction, and sustainability
Very good command of German and good command of English; Dutch is a plus
Very good knowledge of a common CAD or BIM program; Archicad experience is a plus
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Architect, you will take architectural and design responsibility for projects across all relevant planning phases. Your work will vary in scale, detail, tasks, and building typologies. You align projects with De Zwarte Hond’s mission and philosophy and act as a reliable point of contact for clients, overseeing quality, deadlines, budget, and results.
You will also help shape the development of the architecture practice at our Berlin office. Together with the existing team of urban planners and landscape architects, office management, and colleagues in Groningen, Rotterdam, and Cologne, you will develop working methods, quality standards, and structures for the growing team. You will support the expansion of our network in Germany, participate in business development and competitions, and strengthen De Zwarte Hond’s architectural position in the German market.
